It’s all about respect.
In recent years, our nation has become increasingly divided, with misinformation and fear being used to fuel attacks on LGBTQ and transgender individuals.
This growing polarization harms not only those directly affected, but also weakens the fabric of our society.

TAKING A STAND FOR KINDNESS
The Respect Initiative is about taking a stand for kindness. We believe in the “Golden Rule” many of us grew up with – love your neighbor and treat others as you want to be treated. It’s time for people who hold these values to unite against all forms of bullying and attacks on our families. Everyone deserves safety and respect.
Today’s Reality
Transgender young people, like all young people, have the best opportunity to thrive when they’re supported and can receive the healthcare they need when they need it.
But the new Administration is trying to make it impossible and illegal for families of transgender youth to get their child the essential care they need. This is government overreach at its worst, and it threatens to hurt real families.
It’s natural to have questions about this care, especially if you don’t know a transgender youth and their family.
The best way to protect the health and well-being of transgender young people is to ensure that they can continue to receive proven, medically necessary, age-appropriate healthcare from licensed clinicians practicing according to the well-established medical standards.
Healthcare decisions are deeply personal for each and every family. Parents know and love their child like no one else ever will. That’s why these decisions should rest with families and doctors – not the Trump Administration.
What We Believe
01
We believe in personal freedom.
Every American should have the right to live their private life free from government interference, including the freedom to express their gender identity without fear of discrimination or repression.
02
We believe in understanding over fear.
It’s okay to be confused or have questions about transgender and non-binary individuals in our communities. However, confusion should never lead to demonizing people, especially children. Understanding and empathy must replace fear and misinformation.
03
We believe in education and empathy.
Open, respectful dialogue is essential for addressing any confusion about gender identity. Through education, we can foster understanding and create a more inclusive society where everyone feels seen and respected.
04
We believe in equality and dignity.
Every person, regardless of their gender identity or expression, deserves equal rights and protections. Discrimination against any group is unacceptable, and we must strive to ensure that all individuals can live with dignity and freedom.
